It’s important to have a team you can trust on your side when a dental emergency occurs. Forbes Dental Surgery is here for you, and we encourage you to call us right away when an emergency happens.
Here are a few situations that may be considered an emergency:
A lost filling or crown
A tooth that’s been chipped, fractured, or broken
A dental injury or infection that causes sensitivity or a toothache
A tooth that’s been knocked out
We make every effort to see our patients as soon as possible if you’re experiencing a dental emergency. We understand this may feel stressful or overwhelming to you, so it’s also our goal to help you feel comfortable and get you back on the path to wellness again as soon as possible.
We will only remove your tooth when no other option is suitable. If required, your tooth extraction is performed mainly if there is extreme tooth decay or trauma. Tooth extractions can also be a part of a larger dental procedure including the extraction of some permanent teeth to make space for orthodontic treatment, however we emphasise we only take this option if absolutely necessary.
If the tooth is impacted, the dentist will cut away gum and bone tissue that cover the tooth and then, using forceps, grasp the tooth and gently rock it back and forth to loosen it from the jaw bone and ligaments that hold it in place. Sometimes, a hard-to-pull tooth must be removed in pieces.
Crowns & Bridges
Dental Crown. When your tooth sustains an injury, decay, infection, or other damage that goes beyond the range of what a filling can repair, our doctors will recommend a dental crown to restore your tooth and protect your root. We customise each crown using tooth-coloured porcelain to closely match your natural tooth in both form and aesthetics. Your crown will provide the same function you enjoyed with your natural tooth, which means you’ll be able to brush, floss, eat, and chew just as you were used to doing. Crowns are durable and can last for many years with the right home care and regular dental check-ups.
Dental Bridge. A missing tooth greatly affects the quality of your life, and our patients living with one or more missing adjacent teeth may benefit from a dental bridge. A bridge uses crowns as anchors to your natural teeth with prosthetic teeth attached to fill in the space (or "bridge the gap") between your missing teeth. This is a fixed appliance, so you won’t have to worry about removing it for cleaning. Instead, you’ll brush and floss around it. In fact, in order to ensure the longevity of your bridge, it’s very important to keep your anchor teeth clean and healthy with excellent brushing and flossing as well as and regular visits to your dentist.
One of the most reliable tooth replacement options is a dental implant. They boast a 95 per cent success rate because they closely mimic your natural tooth. Our dentists will place the implant, a titanium post, into your bone during surgery. Because it’s biocompatible, titanium will naturally integrate with your bone over time, so we’ll give it a few months to heal.
After the appropriate healing time has passed, we’ll customise a porcelain crown that will replace your tooth. Your new tooth is aesthetically pleasing and designed to match your smile while also offering you all the function you were missing, such as eating, smiling, talking, and chewing.
Root Canal Treatment
Root canals are typically associated with pain; however, it’s usually a dental infection that’s causing your discomfort.
When your tooth suffers from infection, decay, or a severe fracture, you may need root canal therapy to preserve it. You may begin to feel sensitivity in your tooth to hot or cold foods or beverages if you have decay that has reached your root.
Root canal therapy is used to eliminate infected tissue from within your tooth. Our doctors will clean the infection out of your tooth through a small access hole in the top, which they’ll seal with a temporary filling after the procedure is complete. After your tooth has had time to heal, we’ll need to restore your tooth with either a permanent dental filling or a crown.
Save yourself from expensive dental procedures in the future. Shield your kids from preventable dental pain and conditions. Build your children’s confidence and self-esteem. All these and more when you invest early in quality dental care and proper oral hygiene for your little ones.
Our team of dentists and oral health therapists are fully qualified to provide excellent dental care for the entire family. Best of all, they are committed to provide a relaxing, compassionate environment to ensure your little ones feel safe and relaxed during each visit, so you can enjoy a stress-free experience too.
Instead of utilizing traditional braces, Invisalign uses clear plastic aligners to apply gentle pressure and gradually straighten your teeth. Aligners are worn at least 22 hours per day and changed every two weeks. They’re designed to fit snug so they’re hardly noticeable and don’t interfere with your normal daily activities.
Invisalign offers many benefits to our patients other than just discretion. Because they’re removable, you’ll be able to take them out for eating and brushing. This means there are no restrictions to your diet or changes to your home care routine as there would be with braces.
You’ll be in charge of changing out your aligners every two weeks, so there are typically fewer visits to your dentist than traditional braces require. This makes them an ideal option for busy adult or teen patients.
Is your smile beginning to lose a little of its sparkle? This happens to all of us naturally over time and as we age. There are also certain foods we eat and lifestyle choices we make that can affect the colour of our teeth.
If your teeth are in need of an enhancement, whitening can be a quick and cost-effective way to improve your smile. Forbes Dental Surgery offers two convenient options for brightening your smile, and most patients are pleasantly surprised at what an impact teeth whitening can make.
